ADA and its effect on price for Insulin. December 3, 2016

"American Diabetes Association asks Congress to investigate the matter"
So do I, I try to investigate what ADA present, and really I am lost.
In early November, Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont Democrat, pointed out that certain insulins had risen from $21 a vial in 1996 to $255 a vial in 2016.
One vial is 100 units of insulin. It is regular dose of insulin in one vial. Probably there are another dose of some insulin, but price for insulin I take is about $450 for 5 pens 300 units in every pen, so it is $450 for  1500 units, so it is $30 for 100 units Lantus Solo Star, right? I am not sure about my ability to do math. Now the question is, how much cost insulin which today is $255 for vial back in 1996? Nothing. This insulin was not on market as I do think. Also insulin which was on market in 1996 today does not cost $255 but less then that. Finally, let us to recall how much cost bananas back in 1996, and how much it cost today?
"When she goes to the pharmacy to pick up her prescription, she said, she has to make sure they don't run the prescription through her Medicare Part D insurance. If they do, a vial of her insulin would cost $105. But, if they don't use her insurance, a vial costs her $25, she said."
So really, what ADA is going to ask Congress? It is not company which price insulin so high. It is Medicare, Medical Care take lion share. As least it is how it looks from my understanding of reading the article.

My insulin is Lantus Solo Star. The cost of monthly supply for me is $2000. Who can afford it? Not anyone of fixed income. I am disable person. I do have no penny in SSI or Medicaid, no income at all.  My man works, he is 65 +, and this is why I am not qualified for Medicaid. The price for insulin company where my man works, paid over $ 21000 for year. Also I need another medicine, and of cause clinical visits. All this paid by health care company where my man work with co-pays he pays. Now the question is, why when we work we pay for Medicaid, but after we are not able to work because of our medical condition, why there is our families who must provide us with medical care? If company did not provide medical care for our family my man must buy medical insurance for me, Obama Care,  to not be punished by IRS. This was the way how Obama Care covered medical needs of Americans. My man lost his job, and Medicaid was terminated for me because of his unemployment check was $1338 a month, and to be qualified for Medicaid it must be $1100 for two of us. At least this what I was told in Social Security office. They suggested I pay the overspending,  $11000+ . I never did. I try to ignore all calls I do have and mails they sent.
There is family next door. They never worked in America. So, they do have all, SSI, Medicaid, home health aid, and very cheap rent. They are poor, low income family, immigrants from East. All my family works. I did worked when I was not so ill. We all pay tax, and it is very high in NYC. We all pay for Medicaid in case we would not be able to work. Why there is no SSI or Medicaid for us?
It is easy to say that my post is out of topic of discussion, is this really true? I am diabetic type 2. What ADA suggest how to diagnose this condition? What ADA suggest how to treat it? That's right, Starvation Diet would cure diabetes type 2. Weigh loss surgery is number one to cure diabetes type 2.
Why today price for insulin is on the table of discussions? What really ADA so up to? To ask the Congress. To show up. To pretend they do something more then collect millions in donations and then spread it between themselves. What they return back to public? Recommendations how to diagnose diabetes type 2? Not at all. There no one recommendation ho to diagnose type of diabetes. It is very simple. There is no definition diabetes types how to diagnose when which is? But in any case it is treatment, Metforming, Invokana, because of we all insulin-independent diabetics because of we do not take insulin. How can I take insulin if doctor Rx Invokana?

"Edith Prentiss, 64, of New York City, knows all too well what the rising cost of insulin means for her. She needs insulin to treat her diabetes and stay alive, yet living on a fixed income has forced her to make tough choices on which drug she can afford. "
Is this really true, that she cannot live without insulin? To see is this really true or False let us see, how much insulin our body system needs to function properly? How much insulin healthy pancreas secret every day for regular activity and regular diet? And finally, how much insulin secret Edith's Prentiss pancreas? There is no one answer to any of those questions. But the stamp, she cannot live without insulin is nailed.
I am diabetic type 2, one of 95% common diabetics. According to ADA I can fix my medical problem with simple Starvation Diet just 600 calories a day. There are mails every day in my mail cox. Every one ask for donations. People in Africa die from Hunger. Still, according to ADA, it is good for me to Starve myself to Death. Then why Edith does not use this treatment? Money she would safe on food she can pay for insulin. Anyway, it is only $25 for month. I pay $25 for Nutrostat every delivery I do have. It is not necessary medicine , according to a "formulary", so I pay almost full price.
I have to take it, regardless  of any other medicine I need to take. I will pay for insulin first, if I do have money to pay for it. Because of I do not have this money I will slow ding. Very slow, and very painfully, with frozen shoulders when arms cannot be moved, with legs covered by never healing woulds and puss running all over, high swelled body when it is fear that next morning I would not be able to leave my bed. When swelling is way to high breathing would stop. So simple. Probably it is better then live in pain till lungs stop to push air. No one fixed income can afford to pay price I have to pay for insulin. Nether I can pay this price. $2000 monthly it not the choice, any choice.
How can I get insulin? Illegal immigrants in NYC can go to hospital and they would have health care very affordable. But I am American diabetic type 2 and I need insulin to still alive and functional. So, regardless how many times I am in hospital cross the street I do not have Rx to insulin. I was in ER, got pretty high bill, and now I do not go there. I did not pay that bill. I paid just $15 for visit. Still, the bill was higher then $2000, and I do not like to get another bill like that. At that time I got three boxes of insulin. I need 6 for month, every month. I inject 300 units daily. I tried to go to clinic in this hospital. I got very severe Barking Therapy. Doctor barked, barked, and was not able to stop to bark. I left her office. No Rx to insulin. In hospital pharmacy I could get it just for $4 each Rx. There is no Rx. Hospital got $250 for this visit from Health Care plan from my man working company.
This is reality with insulin situation. Thanks to ADA, we are, type 2, put on deathbed regardless of any price to insulin. We simple do not qualified for this medicine.
"Insulin is not a luxury," said Dr. Desmond Schatz, president of medicine and science for the ADA. "The current situation is unacceptable. We have to make sure there is access for everyone, and that's why we're calling on Congress to hold hearings to identify why there's been such a dramatic increase in insulin prices."
WOW! Why do not start from ADA and make sure that every one of us do have insulin? It is they are, ADA who publish guidance every year how to treat diabetes type 2, our medical care providers must use in their daily practice. What ADA suggest?  That diabetes can be reversed with life style modifications. So, is this situation acceptable? Diabetes in number 7 cause of Death in America. In NYC it is number 4. There is no one Congress needed but ADA to change Abusive Barking Therapy they name Life style modification, to insulin, which will safe thousands of lives every year. More then 70 000 diabetics lost lives every year, only due to very high blood sugar. Many of us die because of heart, lungs, kidney, or stroke, resulted by clots in our very syrupy sweet blood. We are Diabetics type 2. ADA try to reverse our diabetes type 2 with life style modification.
Insulin is a naturally occurring hormone that's necessary for the body to use the sugars found in foods as fuel. People with type 1 diabetes don't make enough insulin to survive and must inject insulin multiple times a day to stay alive, according to the ADA.
In type 2 diabetes -- the more common form of the disease -- the body's cells become increasingly resistant to insulin. People with type 2 diabetes sometimes also need to take insulin injections, the ADA says.
So, what is difference? Why type 1 have Rx to insulin and we are, diabetics type 2, have to head to spot number 7 in line to grave? Just say me, why? I am 65. I was born diabetic to diabetic father. I was diagnosed with diabetes in America 15 years ago. Only in 2011 I injected first insulin shot.  Only two years I do have insulin delivery without termination. Every time I am stressed what if next delivery of insulin would be terminated because of, according to medical care providers I am diabetic type 2, means I do not need insulin. If insulin was my treatment regime I would not take right now 300 units daily. I would be able to work, and of cause I would be able to pay for one box of insulin, just $255 a month. But I was diagnosed type 2, so I took all trash medicine but never insulin, and now my pancreas is completely out of ability to do any job. Type 1 diabetics with dose of insulin 100 units for month need insulin to stay alive, and we are, type 2, do not need insulin at all, because of ... what? Profit. Profit medical care do have in expense of our lives and well being.
"But, there's no one insulin that's right for everyone, according to Schatz. "Every patient is different. Individualized care is paramount. There's no 'one-shoe-fits-all,' and insurance companies should not be dictating what insulin we can and cannot use based on formularies," he said."
True? False!!!!!!!!!!
Insulin is perfect for everyone. But what ADA suggest as treatment for us, type 2 population? Life style modifications. And they pretend it can be different for every one? Not at all. It is 1600 calories for woman, and 1800 for man, old, or disable, or those who still working 12 hours a day. It is the same dose of metformin as at first day the same as ten years later, 2000 mg. What is it if not 'one-size-fit-all'? Forget that diabetes is progressive medical condition. They no longer diagnose us as diabetics. It is 'metabolic syndrome' or 'behavior misconduct'.
Let us all, diabetics type 2, use insulin as first line, and just a few generation and diabetes would be no longer number 7 cause of death. Price of insulin is not the cost of one insulin pen or box of insulin. It is dose of insulin we need.  It is way too costly. Why? We have to reverse damage which was dome by life style modifications, Metformin, Invokana, and all that Trash we used to take year after year. Only after this problem would be finally reversed we will start to recovery, very slow, but we will.
What would be after that? What ADA suppose to do? And all that medical care providers who are perfect to bark how we have to eat. Who will go to these clinics? Healthy patient no longer paying patient. Not acceptable for medical care organization.
"She's chosen to use an older, cheaper version of insulin because it's all she can afford. Prentiss said she has more debilitating low blood sugar episodes on this type of insulin. But on a fixed income, she feels it's the best -- maybe only -- option for her."
I am not sure that author or person she discuss situation with really reliable.  The point is that insulin is not so easy to switch. If insulin is wrong it simple does not work, and in this case instead of to stay alive as it it presented by author diabetic will get worse, blood sugar would rise. Personally, I cannot take many types of insulin. This is why I have to take only type of insulin I take right now, Lantus Solo Star. It is possible to take Lantus, it is another delivery system. But not other types such as Novolog or Toujeo.
"Reasonable access to insulin has become a problem for some people with diabetes. This needs to change, and we are committed to doing our part to improve access," said a Nov. 18 statement from Lilly Diabetes.
That's right.  Insulin is life, and it must be part of treatment regime for every diabetic, regardless of any type or stages or body fat or skin color, or any other crap ADA suggest to diagnose victim as type 2.. We should not be denied medicine we need to be alive and functional. Barking Therapy is not the option. The same as Weight loss surgery. I need insulin, every day, day after day. I cannot pay for insulin. I need so high dose that any restriction in the dose reduction will lead me to the irreversible consequences. If every one of us, diabetics type 2, would have access to insulin, health care company will pay less for our medicine and health care. Trash medicine is not cost effective for America. It is very effective only for Medical Care providers to keep high profit in expense of patients well being.
