"Autopsy Show....." from Dr. Joslin books reading. March 13, 2017

One book after another, one pounds of hard cover books after another come to my door. My post man shakes his hands: very heavy. Yes, it is very heavy books I order. I order old print books, most of them by Dr. Joslin. He was one on the first line insulin treatment. He published one book after another, in company with some other authors. Right now it started to be re-printed. But really I do not trust in re-print. It can be easy manipulate. So, I order old first published books. Some of them still on market. There are less and less of them Today I expect print 1928.
      It is interesting to read old books, first edition. It gives look at all the picture, not only treatment, insulin, but also the personality medical authorities of that time. My first observation, to count how many times name of Dr. Banting would be printed in the book of Dr. Joslin back in 1937? Not too many. If he mentioned name of Dr. Banting then it is all the time accompanied by C.Best. He even present that C. Best was the friend of Dr. Banting and of cause he helped Dr. Banting to discovery insulin. Very interesting. In many articles and in many publications C. Best presented that he thought Dr. Best how to do surgery to dogs. It was told, he did not know it. Four years on war as surgeon, on battle field, and of cause he does not know how to do surgery, C.Best do know. He already past one year in medical school!No one mention, Dr. Banting graduated from Medical School. He already was The Doctor. C. Best was not.
        Dr. Banting injected first insulin into human in 1922. His patient was in coma, and there were no any hope he would live for long. Patient developed allergy reaction because of quality of insulin injected. Team worked hard to purify the extract.
Bertram Collip, a biochemist, purified substance, and second injection was successful.

1922: The first patient, Leonard Thompson a 14 year old boy with type 1 diabetes is given the first medical administration of insulin. Previously patients with type 1 diabetes would be put onto starvation diets and would have only months to live. Leonard lived another 13 years before succumbing to pneumonia.

Now, diabetic who got first insulin shot, who was in hospital and had no one chance to live, survived and lived another 13 years with help of insulin. In clinic of Dr. Joslin case 14756 woman 22 years old, died after she was injected 350 units of insulin within 12 hours.

R. C. Paulesco, a Romanian, made an extract from the pancreas that lowered the blood glucose of dogs. Some claim Paulesco was the first to discover insulin. The biggest breakthrough came in 1921 when Frederick Banting and Charles Best conducted a series of experiments one summer in the laboratory of J.J. R.

There were many who tried extract from the pancreas, only Dr. Banting got it right and used in human and animals. What is most important I see right now that finally Charles Best is not Dr. Best. He became Dr. but at the time of insulin discovery he was just a student who past first year in medical school. For Dr. Joslin it is shame to push student as he is number one in research  and scientific  discovery. He never was co-discoverer. He was just student in library.
       I read this hundreds of pages in book 1937, and it is ... "autopsy show..." . One case after another, "autopsy show...." For me it looks like at that time there were no interest how to use insulin properly, how to heal or treat diabetics. Not at all. We became interesting cases, human subjects to studies. Then more us then better. This is why today, in spite insulin, beautiful, highest quality insulin manufactured, and still diabetics die because of high or low blood sugar, incorrect use of insulin, late diagnose of diabetes. Today with so highly developed transplant medicine, we are, diabetics type 2, looks best supply for the medical industry.
     Right now my legs in wounds, all the time they leaking. My man try to cover them but he is so unskilled nurse. Actually nurse must come to my home. I have to have home aid, I am not capable to take shower, to dress, to undress by myself. But ... there are even no medicine for me. Thanks to my man and the company where he works I do have all medicine I need. Insulin come to my door, and no interruption.
      I all the time hope for the better. In contrary with my hopes, life did not get in this direction. Pounds, weight go up and up. Usually doctors all the time see only one way to get pounds, eat too much fat. In spite of many pages of autopsy records, no one do know that it is water retention in every sell of our bodies, in brains, in lungs, in hearts, and so on. Usually they all the time Rx diuretics. I refuse to take this medicine. It is increases my blood sugar level, and finally leads to higher water retention, heart failure and kidney failure.
      Probably it is reading all that autopsy cases why I am so depressed today. It is getting sunny outside, and soon it will be Summer.
