This is a new type of insulin developed to be used by those people with diabetes, children or adult who needs more then 200 units of insulin daily. It is highly concentrated (Humulin R U‑500 KwikPens )type of insulin.
Now the question is, how to use it? Of cause there are instructions. The same as usual to all other insulin in pen. My question is, do I need to start to take Humulin in stead of Lantus Solo Star, or it is better to stay how I do now? These pens must be more cost effective then Lantus Solo Star. Every pen cost monet, and I have to disposal it after use. So, my pen is 300 units. The same pen of 3 mL HUMULIN® R U-500 KwikPen® containing 1,500 units of insulin. It is very very cost effective. It safe space in ref. In stead of 20 boxes of insulin pens Lantus Solo Star IO would keep only 4 boxes. It is just great.
There is the problem. The Humulin is rapid acting type of insulin. It must be taken 30 min before meal. It is developed for those who needs more then 200 units of insulin, which one? There are three types of insulin:
rapid actin, slow release long acting insulin, and regular insulin.
Do not take it for granted I do remember correctly which one is which. I simple do not pay attention for that. But rapid acting insulin and long acting insulin are not interchangeable. So, the question is, 200 units and more, what type of insulin diabetic needs to use?
The type of insulin is not less important then dose of insulin. So, is this type of insulin well suitable to take more then 200 units of insulin daily?
Also we have to remember, if one takes rapid acting insulin such as Novolog or any other this type, then one needs to take another type of insulin, long acting type of insulin to cover needs in insulin between meals. In instructions I did not find the pull info, if Humulin used alone, or it must be used with some other types of insulin? As long as I do remember, there are type of Humulin when there are two types of insulin combined, short acting insulin and long actin insulin. So, it is combination therapy. There is nothing what can be more danger to be used by diabetic. Too danger.
When needs in insulin more then 200 units, what is it? They are pro, they do know very well, rapid acting insulin cannot be taken in huge dose. So, if I take 500 units of Lantus Solo Star a day, then it is long acting insulin, and it is no way this type of insulin can be rapid acting.So, the statement that this type of insulin developed for diabetics who need more then 200 units of insulin daily, type 2 diabetics, does not have meaning. Period.
To use more then 200 units of insulin daily is already complicated and confusing. Some pro pretend, dose of insulin can be counted. It is not. It is not the case that weight devided by 4 can be used as dose of insulin in injections. In other words, I would not tread my trusted Lantus Solo Star. I better to stay how I am by now.
