ISSUE: As a result of an updated review, the FDA has concluded that use of the type 2 diabetes medicine pioglitazone (Actos, Actoplus Met, Actoplus Met XR, Duetact, Oseni) may be linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer. The labels of pioglitazone-containing medicines already contain warnings about this risk, and FDA has approved label updates to describe the additional studies reviewed. http://ift.tt/2hnq99JFDA warning is the sing of to be considered more seriously then usually naive diabetics do. It is not the same as we do have warning in every medicine list we take. There side effects, and very often they presented as they are rare. Black Box on medicine label documentation is Red Signal to be considered as the time to stop to take this medicine or do not start if one suggested by medical provider. Of cause FDA suggest to still to take medicine, but it is better to use own judgement.
BACKGROUND: FDA alerted the public about the possible risk of bladder cancer in September 2010 and June 2011 based on interim results from a 10-year epidemiologic study. FDA changed the labels of pioglitazone-containing medicines in August 2011 to include warnings about this risk, and required the manufacturer to modify and continue the 10-year study.Personally, I do not like to hold Lab Rat Position. Just think about, ten years they will study if I survived or not, how many of us stopped to breath, and haw far we dropped into complications of diabetes type 2. Why Do I Need It? Really I do not. I better to take another medicine which does not have Black Box Warning on label.
Now, medicine is what for? What job medicine is doing?
Pioglitazone is approved to improve blood sugar control, along with diet and exercise, in adults with type 2 diabetes. Pioglitazone works by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin, a natural hormone that helps control blood sugar levels. Untreated, type 2 diabetes can lead to serious problems, including blindness, nerve and kidney damage, and heart disease.OK, There is point. Medicine increasing sensitivity to insulin, but what do known about, if there is insulin in blood to be used to control blood sugar level? We test every day a few times daily level of sugar in blood. We never test level of insulin in blood. It is suggested that the level of insulin is high in Diabetic type 2 blood, so we do not need insulin injected in blood stream. It is suggested that we do not use insulin properly. No one suggestion, how really we do use insulin, but it is taken for granted we do it wrong. Pretty complicated for me to take it for granted. I am very resistant to any brain washing. I wish to see on paper that before my body will be forced to increase sensitivity to insulin, show me, pleas, if there is insulin available to be used? No one test like that.
RECOMMENDATION: Health care professionals should not use pioglitazone in patients with active bladder cancer, and should carefully consider the benefits and risks before using pioglitazone in patients with a history of bladder cancer. What if I do not have active bladder cancer? Do I need to develop it? I do not think so. As it was said above,
" the FDA has concluded that use of the type 2 diabetes medicine pioglitazone (Actos, Actoplus Met, Actoplus Met XR, Duetact, Oseni) may be linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer"so if I would take this medicine the condition would be developed, right? Then why simple do not stop to Rx this very risky medicine in first place?
Profit. Never take off consideration Profit our Sweet Blood carry on to all but us. Still, I prefer to do my best to benefit myself rather then ADA or FDA, or WHO, or Big Pharma, or anyone else. This medicine does not bring anything good for me, but carry on risk of cancer, and complications of uncontrolled diabetes type 2.
Thank You So Much. It is not good for me. I will not take it.
