Daibetes Type 2. Dr. E. Joslin Case #8. April 3, 2017

"Effective treatment, however, rests in the hands of the patient. It is by diet and exercise as well as by insulin or oral drugs. Patient with the will to win and those who know the most, conditions being equal, can live the longest." - Elliott P. Joslin. 1959. Diabetic Manual.
It is deep night, and I cannot sleep. Before night, at 11:30 pm my man changed dressings on my wounds. Now they are all wet, and pain in legs severe, but still bearable. I am cold, because of dressing wet, and all leg is wet. Just a few hours, and a few layers of quilting sandwich got wet from down to the surface. It was nice, dry and worm when my man dressed leg. Now all is cold and wet, and even shoe is wet inside. Wounds started to go back where they were before ER visit. The difference is only, all my body covered by rush, all body, like I spent weekend under sunshine and got tanned.
Today at 9 am physio therapist have to come to teach me to walk. LOL! When they really will start to see where the real problem is? Looks like never. Of cause, it is so easy to put finger into my big belly, and mock me out how fatty I am. But to stop wounds from development?.... no, they cannot do it. At first I have to lose weight. If I will 100 pounds I will not have diabetes. But I am 400 pounds. And I am diabetic type 2.
There is no supply to dress wounds. From hospital I come with one day supply. Today it is Sunday. There is no any one pad left, and I need 6 of them for every change. My man cut one t-shirt after another. Only the way to find something. Also we use quilting supply to cover wounds. LOL At least I do have something useful.
In hospital it was told I do have thrombosis in legs. No any medicine for it. There they gave me heparin. At home I have nothing. They refuse, as usual, to give medicine we need. I asked many times, I insisted, I need it, coumadin, but, ..... , looks it is to good medicine to be used by diabetics type 2 with many strokes and high blood sugar. What is going on? No one answer. No place to go. No place for me in hospital. No help at home. Yes, my man ready to help. What he can do? I need medical help, and there is no real help. Every one is doing something, nurse changing dresses on wounds, and then my man somehow must to do it at bedtime. Social worker care for meal and something else. But most important problem, wounds on my leg, still without touch. They are leaking. Looks like I am heading to lose my right leg. Looks like it will finally lose its weight.
Why not? Really, I was diagnosed with diabetes type 2 back to 2001. Now it is 2017. It is 16 years already. Usually diabetics type 2 gone withing 10 years after being diagnosed with diabetes type 2. In diagnose recommendations it is all the time said sugar is higher then 200 mg/dl random. So, if fasting sugar 370 mg/dl then it is diabetes type 2, and of cause it can be easily reversed with life style modifications. We just have to stop to eat too much sugar.
"Effective treatment, however, rests in the hands of the patient. It is by diet and exercise as well as by insulin or oral drugs. Patient with the will to win and those who know the most, conditions being equal, can live the longest." - Elliott P. Joslin. 1959. Diabetic Manual.
So simple, we are those who do not want to win. This is why we suffer, and we have to suffer, because of we do not do what we have to do, use diet and work outs to have effective treatment of out severely painful, fatally danger medical condition. Why is this so? Simple.
"....unlike rheumatism and cancer, it is painless when controlled..... " Really? My blood sugar is under very good control. It even does not looks like I am diabetic, and in hospital I was not given even one insulin shot, so good my blood sugar was. If so, then why it is so mach pain in my body and in my right leg which lost flesh in liquid?
".... unlike tuberculosis, it is clean and not contagiousness ......." Right. This is why we can be left untreated one generation after another, and treated as diabetes is metabolic disorder in stead to be endocrine system disorder. If it is cancer of stomach, it would be still cancer, not metabolism problem. But diabetes.... of cause it is too much sugar in the bloody tea.
"Moreover, it is susceptible to treatment, and any downward cause of a patient can be promptly checked....." So simple, all can be easy checked but ..... "the effectiveness treatment .... rests in the hands of the patient"
In other words, if I sill have my flesh melting from my bones, it is I who do not use right and effective treatment. So simple!!!!!!!!!!!! It is I , who does not use diet and work out, why I am heading to be amputee, one of thousands, who does not eat right.
"My mother's diabetes was recognized in 1900. She was my Case #8. Naturally, I went to Strassburg to learn from Naunyn, the Nestor of diabetes, how to treat her."
On low carb high-fat diet she lived 13 years under effective treatment of her son. Then she died. As the rest of every one of us, diabetics type 2. Do not say, it was time when insulin still not discovered yet. What really is different if insulin discovered or not? We are, diabetics type 2, left without insulin even it was discovered almost 100 years ago. Only in 2014 I got my constant insulin supply, so the same as Dr. Joslin mother I lived 13 years without insulin, regardless it was discovered already. Then I put away all medicine drs Rx to me, and started to take insulin. This add a few years to my life. If after in 2011 I started to take insulin I never stopped to take it, today I would not have 400 pounds, and would not face the amputation possibility. Unfortunately, I never had ability to pay $2,000 for insulin supply.
Well, after his mother died then his ante died due to diabetes. What I wish to say, his father was not so smart if he married diabetic girl. What later his son suggested as prevention for diabetes development, do not marry diabetic or someone from diabetic family. I wish he never was married, and never had children. I wish he got diabetes, and treated himself with all effectiveness he was capable of. No. This pleasure he left to us. And he left legacy to be prominent diabetic doctor.
What is interesting, sometimes Dr. Joslin mention Dr. Banting. All time with Best as co-discover of insulin. He never mention title of Dr. Banting. Usually it is just "Banting". I found it is very ignorant and disrespectful. So, I am sorry, if I sound without any respect to E. Joslin. Really, I do have nothing good to say about this one.
