E. Joslin was one of the first doctors who started to treat diabetics with insulin. His last book for patients was copyrighted in 1959. This is re-print 1966.
If it is the highly elevated temperature of body, we all do know, it is caused by infection. Why no one even think about, that infection caused by elevated temperature of the body? Still, every one do know for sure, it is obesity which caused diabetes. No way it is diabetes caused by obesity.
We have to combine:
the level of sugar before injection;
the level of fasting sugar;
the dose of insulin injected Yesterday and all day today;
the blood sugar level all day Yesterday and today;
the activity, work and all other staff we are doing every day, such as cleaning, dusting, working, laundry, and so so so on. Of cause it it presented we do nothing, just sit on couch and watch TV. Who is cooking?
the calories we take and have to take, to be sure do not collapse on the street because of no energy to take any step,
the calories in every bite we take;
the carbs in every meal we take;
.......... does anyone can effectively figure out how to connect level of sugar, dose of insulin, and calorie intake? Just three in the row. Usually it is easy done when it is presented that we have to take **** amount of calories. But how to connect dose of insulin with level of sugar? No one education program so far. Every clinic, every doctor do know amount calories I have to take. No one insulin unit in hospital, and my blood sugar run up and up. So, I was simple discharged. To do math at home.
When it started? Long before Dr. Banting discovered Insulin. It was so nice and so effective. Count carbs and calories, do not get fat, and there is no diabetes. Doctors like joslin never will let diabetics to get out of hook. We are way too profitable.
Just add a little bit more Bark Therapy to The Trash Medicine, and joslin's never will out of business.
Q. What is the part of the body is at fault in diabetes?Pancreas does belong to the endocrine system. So, Why Diabetes is Metabolic Disorder? It is OK to take stomach, and there would not be diabetes till insulin secreted by Pancreas. Stomach belong to metabolic system. Pancreas does not belong to this system. Pancreas belongs to Endocrine System. So, why diabetes is not endocrine system disorder but metabolic syndrome? Remember, it is 1959, insulin already on the market and in wide use.
A. The Pancreas. Take it out, and diabetes appears.
Q. How is the disease controlled?At first, say me, 'mild and uncomplicated cases' what they are? It takes years till diabetes claim victim. So, all those years Dr. Joslin 'control' diabetes as it is 'mild' case, nothing to worry about, till severe complications developed, right? To know how does it works, just remember, his mother died under his care because of diabetes. At first it was mild, and he treated her with diet, which she never had been broken. Then complications developed, and she died. The same as today thousands diabetics type 2 die every years, 76,000, and more, just diabetes, high blood sugar level, mild diabetes which 'controlled' with diet and oral drugs till finally flesh melted, legs removed, and heart give up. Thank to Dr. E. Joslin and his Diabetes Center in Boston. They do know what they are doing. Millions pages of what to eat. No pages, how to control mild diabetes with insulin, so diabetes complications would not be developed.
A. By diet, exercise and insulin and in mild and uncomplicated cases, hopefully, by oral drugs.
Q. Why do untreated diabetics grow thin?
A. They do not get enough value out of the food they eat to make up for that lost sugar in the urine.
In 1000 diabetics arranged by decade of onset there were only 77 who were underweight, 151 of standard weight but there were 772 who were overweight. It is almost exceptional for a thin individual over forty years of age to get diabetes.And there are a little bit more.
The average weight of 1326 married diabetic woman above the age of forty-five coming to me for treatment was 181 pounds and 111 single women 161 pounds. One must prevent overweight in married women.The Q? is, how all these put together? Do really diabetics thin? Do we overweight? And most important, if we come to clinic and diagnosed with diabetes then for how long we were diabetics before we got diagnose of diabetes? So, it is pretty difficult to say, what was first, diabetes or obesity? What cause to what?
If it is the highly elevated temperature of body, we all do know, it is caused by infection. Why no one even think about, that infection caused by elevated temperature of the body? Still, every one do know for sure, it is obesity which caused diabetes. No way it is diabetes caused by obesity.
Q. What is the dose of insulin?Book of 303 pages. This is the only answer to the most important question, every one of us, diabetics do have. We do know very well how to put needle into belly. There is no need to teach us in book like this. It is duty of nurse, and it must be done at first day we take insulin injection. Still, insulin dose, we have to count this dose every day, a few times daily.
A. It varies with each case. A patient requires sufficient units to keep his urine sugar-free, hist blood normal,enjoy a reasonably varied diet and enough to maintain vigor and suitable body weight. During diabetic coma and in the presence of fiver insulin acts less well and more units are required, but when given in sufficient quantity it is life-saving.
