Actually, there is no one real picture how much diabetes cost to diabetic and diabetic's family or how much diabetic cost to health plan. Usually there is not so many dates. It is collective cost, and in this cost not so much reality.
In this post I wish to show the real cost of diabetic life. I do have health plan now which pays most my health care needs. This plan is private. Man man working company pay this expenses.

It is far away not all what my medicine cost. This is only what I have to take every day, and without these medicine I would not be able to live. I do not work. I am disable person. I hardly move around house, and now I use scooter. So happy I do have it. health plan paid it. I cannot afford to buy so expensive toys. The cost I posted is only cost of medicine. I have to go to clinic, have blood work done, and see many specialists. I do not pay co-pays. I try to be as cheap as I can.
I do not belong low income family. My man works, so our income is higher then poverty line. But we are not wealthy family with old money to be free to spend. All what we do have just paycheck.
In 2016 plan paid $23900 only for my medicine. Only medicine. Now say me, how diabetic type 2 can survive?
In 2012 my man lost job he used to work. We did not have health insurance, and as disable person I had Medicaid and SSI. After my man lost his job all benefits for me were terminated. It was told that his Social Security check was higher then poverty line, so I am not qualified for Medicaid and SSI. Insulin delivery was stopped at once. 260 units of insulin daily dose was terminated due to excess of income. I was told, I have to spend some money to get insulin back. It was not really sure that I will have these insulin, they will take it into consideration if I am qualified as diabetic to inject insulin. I am diabetic type 2. I never was qualified for insulin therapy. To spend money at first I have to have them. And I did not have anything to spend.
I already posted about and I do not want to repeat that sad story. It is past, it is over. My man got a new job and now I do have insulin in my ref. The post is about cost of diabetes for the family, and the ability of family to support diabetic's life.
Right now wounds on my leg started to developed. I have to work very hard in attempt to keep my legs from being amputated. It is edema, high water retention. And it is thrombosis, which in reality no one MD ever would be diagnosed. Why they do not diagnose it? Probably because with this diagnose they suppose to do something more then mock heavily abused diabetic. Probably they need to Rx some treatment such as Blood Thinners. They do not like it. So, they pretend, if diabetic will lose weight then there is no need in any treatment.
I do not relay on any MD recommendations. I do not take it for granted that if I will lose weight I will be diabetes type 2 free. Really, if so then why did I have high blood sugar when I was not obese? But all this is in past, and I do not fight in war I never can win. I have Bigger Fish To Fry.
I got it on Amazon. It is good price and it is good product. Just too costly. I can wrap my leg with it up to week, and then it is off, trash. It is not reusable. The problem with this Wrap is also that when leg start to decompress too fast it is no longer can stay on the place. I have to take another wrap. If in contrary the decompression is still not working due to edema was not stopped and did not start to reverse, the pain is unbearable. I have to take wrap off. This is why to relay that this warp will work full week is not reasonable.
This is re-usable wrap. I have to secure it with pins. The clips which come with it simple do not work. They do not hold tight pressure.

There are many other spending on the wound care. I do not know the price. I just buy all what I need, and thanks to my man, he pays all for me. As I said I try to safe some money, so I use all old t-shirts as bandage. Wounds are wet, yellow liquid run out of wound, and no one wrap will keep it. So I have to place at first bandage, then warp.
It is not all of cause. On the wound I have to place some medicine to keep skin from getting infected. Just trust me, it is cost money, and medicine run out very fast. It is treatment for life and this treatment is in large scale. These spending never counted by any one. These spending go out of pocket. No plan pay for these wraps or medicine I take to keep my leg.
People love to talk how many complications diabetics type 2 develop due to lock of activity or unhealthy eating.No one really talk about complications we do have but cannot prevent them with healthy meal choice. Breathing is one of them. It is Sleep Aphnea. When it is presented that we do have this problem when we sleep, it is not all the picture. We do have this problem in wake up stage. It is simple never diagnosed. There is no treatment for this condition. It is only C-POP or Bi-POP to prevent Death during the sleep when breathing simple stopping. I do not know cost of machine. I did pay only $100 for my Bi-POP. I need this machine when I go camping and there is no electricity on site. Usually MD suggest he will give me Rx to this machine, but I have to pay for it. MD usually deny to work out the need for this machine with health plan. Probably Health Plan will pay it. No paper work from MD. I cannot afford to pay, so I go camping without machine, and try to stay alive on camp. For someone it will be like my fantasy. But not for me.
There is machine to take medicine for Asthma. Do I have to buy it?
There is need in Oxygen. I cannot afford it.
In this Summer I finally got my Scooter. Did MD work on it that I need this machine? Not at all. My primary never Rx even cane for me. I use old one with is almost trashed. It was nurse who did paper work because of insurance company cannot send scooter without proper paper work. My primary simple hate me. As I think. Probably I am wrong. I wish I am. Scooter cost about $5000. Now I can go outside. I even can go to medical clinic or shopping and finally order glasses I need.
I need this Cold Medicine to treat my constant infections. Rx for anti-biotis usually short, and it never work to curte infection. So by now I take Cold Medicine for every day. I try my best to stay healthy as much as I can.
Also there is Excedrin. I have to take it every day. So add this cost out of my man pocket. He buy it in Costco
$15.54. Price depend from time and place. I take 2 in the more. 2 in the eve. and up to 8 tab when headache very severe.
Excedrin work for me. Tylenol, or any other pain medicine simple do not work. I try them all.
Every year two times we go to Saratoga Springs to fetch the Mineral Water. So, by now I do not but supplements of magnesium or iron, or any other supplements. Anyway they never worked for me. But Mineral Water is also come with price, even it is free of charge in Saratoga Springs.
Last time when we went to Saratoga Springs we bought apples. $30 one tote. My man got two of them. Fresh, very juicy.
