THURSDAY, Sept. 28, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- Expensive new medicines offer hope to patients with uncontrolled "bad" cholesterol, but the high cost keeps many patients from getting them, a new study says.

A new drug, Old drug, cost effect, and so on, why it is so important to discuss? Because these discussions take attention away from the real problem and bring brain washing propaganda in its place.  Look at, what is 'bad cholesterol', where this problem takes its roots? Of cause in wrong behavior of victim. Cholesterol high only because of eating high fat food.
Still, if we take a look at the cost of a new medicine there is no food involved, but high profit.
The drugs cost as much as $14,000 a year,
WOW! This is a new drug. It is not clear yet if it is good medicine and it will lead to cure and recovery. Not at all. It is still in the process to investigate cost and benefits. At the same time well known Lipitor, which is $2400 a year, 80 mg daily dose (I take this medicine and insurance pay for this).  Usually patients denied this Brand Medicine and Lipitor replaced by cheap Simvastatin and other statins. These medicine does not work. Millions of diabetics take Atrovastatin, Provaststin, Simvastatin, every day, still level of cholesterol is high. I take Lipitor only, and my cholesterol within normal range, when there is no heart problem involved.
Many years ago I started to take Lipitor at first time. The dose of it raised up to 80 mg daily very fast. Soon insurance company asked doctor if Brand Lipitor can be replaced by generic medicine. Doctor's office front deck easy to approve these changes. My heart reacted right away and I asked to return to the previous medical regime. Simvastatin was replaced by Atrovastatin, or vise versa, and my heart rate ride over the 200 beats. Medical clinic named it 'an episode'.
With my resistance to the generic medicine and active insist to return to the brand Lipitor, I recovered, and since that never returned to generic cholesterol lowering medicine. I pay co-pay, highest I have to pay, but still I take 80 mg of Lipitor daily. Never free Atrovastatin, or Simvastatin.
Now there is the question, why new medicine must be taken to control 'bad cholesterol' ? Why do not start with Brand Lipitor which is higher in cost then generic but still it is lower in cost then new PCSK9 inhibitors? Personally I will weight a little bit longer before commit myself to be Human Genia Pig.
