In a recent study, researchers stated that severe high and low blood sugar levels are “serious complications of type 1 diabetes (T1D)”, and said that the relationship between depression and extreme blood sugars hasn’t been studied much in those with type 1 diabetes.OK, O am very well familiar with these high / low swings, and I do suffer from depression for many many years. I am not diabetic type 1, I am diabetic type 2. In study they do not care about high / low blood sugar swings in diabetics type 2. But still, probably, I will find some info I can use to fight mine high/low and depression? So, I opened the link. Now what did I found?
So they conducted a study to look at the “bidirectional associations between depression and severe dysglycemia among people with T1D.”

Nothing. Just basic, that the link between high-low blood sugar and depression established.
According to study, the link is stronger during first 6 month after diabetes type 2 diagnose. Now the question is, after 6 month of type 1 diagnose is this really true that high/low drops still present? If so then there is no right treatment.During first 6 month of first year blood sugar must drop with proper regime of treatment if it is diabetes type 1. Diabetes type 2 does not have these privileges. Our blood sugar getting into higher progress with time then more we moderate our life style then more severe depression and more aggressive high / low swings.
So, first statement that link between depression and high /low blood sugar swings was not established. What is clearly established is that diabetics type 1 do not have stabilized blood sugar level after leaving hospital. Otherwise, high/low swings in blood sugar level where they come from during 6 month in the first year of DT1 diagnose?
According to study, after diagnose was once established depression elevates. If so, then why diabetics type 2 do not considered to have depression? It is diabetics type 2 who die because of high blood sugar level. There are 95% of us, type 2 diabetics. Diabetics type 2 die withing less then 10 years after being diagnosed with diabetes type 2 if we do not start to take insulin. So, it is easy to see that diabetics type 2 do have high blood sugar. If so, then there is no one way that there is no low blood sugar. Low blood sugar is all the time result of treatment of diabetes.
Sysy Morales, the author of the article. She is diabetic type 1 for 23 years. WOW! Is this all what she is capable to share? What about promise to show the way how to fight high/low blood sugar and depression when they come all together? It is only promise. Do not take her as true. This is type of blog or publication which is highly promoted to brain wash public and diabetic. I have better tip to gight depression and high/low blood sugar.
When my days are Blue, I take two Citalopram Usually I take one. If I miss this medicine my mood going down. I am getting depressed without any reason. This is how diabetes effect our nerve system. Regardless what we are doing, it is hurt, and we have to deal with our type 2 diabetes every day in our lives long before diabetes type 2 was diagnosed. Usually we born with it. Or it was very severe trauma, illness, or any other situation that diabetes come as part of PTSD.
I posted many times, then higher high blood sugar numbers then lower they drop after insulin shot. So, I have to dance between every dose of insulin I inject into my belly. I run my log book to see how numbers go up and down. What effect these numbers? This was how I found that diuretics are not for me. After starting to take diuretic my blood sugar got out of control. When I stopped this medicine numbers return back to usual regime.
In education programs they suggest to count dose of insulin according to the amount of carbs I am going to eat. It is easy to say. but does it really the amount of carbt effect numbers? Try to run your test. Try to take the same meal day after day, and check your numbers. If numbers are then same then they are right. If numbers still 'dancing' then amount of carbs does not effect level of sugar. So try to find another way to find dose of insulin to inject.
Usually all diabetics who take insulin, take two types of it. One type of insulin, rapid or short acting type of insulin, to reduce level of sugar after meal. It named 'bolus', it is big in dose. Another type of insulin is basal, to cover needs in insulin between meals. It is long acting or slow release type of insulin. I tried many types of insulin, and long I try to take insulin as it was directed. This regime does not work for me. So, I take only Lantus Solo Star, slow release type of insulin.
This regime work for me perfectly. No danger high/low swings. No severe depression. And it is under my control. All what I need just right medicine, Insulin Lantus Solo Star and Citalopram.
