Researchers have discovered a safe and effective novel therapy to reduce insulin requirements and hypoglycemic episodes in adult subjects with recent onset type 1 diabetes by promoting the patient's own beta cell function and insulin production -- the first such discovery to target diabetes in this manner. Is this really first such discovery?

Not at all. It is the same as old well known SU such as Glipiside diabetics type 2 take for ages. Is this reduce Diabetes type 2 mortality? Not at all. Diabetes still number 7 cause of Death.
What is difference between Insulin and Novel therapy to promote diabetic's own insulin production? Does it leads to cure diabetes? Not at all. It leads to timeless Beta Cells Death. With insulin therapy Beta Cells have time to re-gain ability to recovery, restore already damaged cells, and finally to get cured. With Beta Cells reduced therapy this ability lost, and with time less and less insulin secretion would be.
How this therapy can be "Safe"? And in no one way it is "Effective". SU long term use show the danger of this medicine. This medicine is used to kill Diabetics type 2,. Now it is pretended as effective and safe way to treat adult diabetics type 1. Way? Because of diabetics type 1 were diagnosed as children. Now they are adult. So, what is difference between adult diabetic type 1 and adult diabetic type 2 who was diagnosed with diabetes as adult? Why one medicine can work for one adult and cannot work for another adult? Try it and see, this medicine is effective and safe for any diabetic. So, there is no need in insulin for any adult. It is time for us to be gone.
It is pretended that with SU or Novel medicine there is no hypo's. Really? Interesting point I would like to say. Why hypo's happened in first place? It is insulin added into blood stream. In one case it can be too little meal, so hypo happened. In another time it can be too much work out, so sugar dropping low. There are many way that sugar can be low. In natural way when we do have healthy pancreas, it control the amount of insulin secreted according to body needs. When any medicine involved it is not natural way. So, regardless it is insulin added in injection or it is stimulated pancreas which secret insulin according to the dose of medicine taken, it is not naturally controllable. We have to count dose of medicine, our activity, out meal, and .... o, yes, much much more. Because of there is no math formula to calculate, there is even no range how much insulin needed to push air or to pump blood during the day, how it is possible to know how much insulin human body uses to function?
There is another point. Every one diabetic, type 2 or type 1 or LADA, or any one else, need different dose of insulin. Now with so wide differences how it is possible to count all diabetic to the same dose of medicine to stimulate pancreas? Not possible. Also, every one pancreas is different and its ability to secret insulin is different. But the dose of medicine to stimulate pancreas is the same. Do not say, there is no hypo's when insulin replaced by any oral medicine.
Insulin added into blood stream in injections almost 100 years on market. For all those years there is no one side effect was discovered but hypo's. All other types of medicine for diabetics type 2 have a lot of fatal side effects. Hypo's are danger. But every diabetic finally able to manage it. It is pretended that hypo can be fatal. But let us see, where that fatality occurred? I am sure, most of them happened in hospitals, or under medical pro barbarian supervision. Even kids able to take insulin therapy for themselves. But still Med. Pro not able to provide effective Insulin therapy. 100 years, and still, there is no progress in diabetes treatment, why?
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human trial identified verapamil as a safe, effective, and promising therapy -- a groundbreaking finding in the field of diabetes research.Who will need these research if diabetics can do cure and recovery?
In 2014, Shalev's UAB research lab discovered that verapamil completely reversed Type 1 diabetes in animal models and sought to test the effects of the drug in human subjects in a clinical trial, funded by a $2.1 million grant from the JDRF.Well, SU never reversed diabetes type 2. I am sure it was also "a groundbreaking finding" when this medicine was developed. This discovery even lead to discovery of a new type of diabetes, type 2, not sugar diabetes, non-insulin dependent diabetes, and insulin resistant type of diabetes. There are many names. Still, there is no effective treatment and fatality due to diabetes are very high.
