The date of onset of diabetes is usually indefinite and its approach insidious. The most characteristic symptoms of the disease are the passage of large amounts of urine, increased thirst, and excessive appetite, accompanied by loss of weight and strength. This book published back to 1940. Today we do not take level of sugar in urine to diagnose diabetes. It is level of sugar in blood which taken into account. Back to 1940 glucose meters were not developed yet. The sugar in urine come after sugar in blood is very high and it is going into urine. The huge amount of water taken by diabetic to clean up the system.
If diabetes diagnosed what is the treatment?
Insulin should be given immidiatelly in the folloving circumstances:What treatment do we have today?
- In the severe case, where the patient is obviously ill, suffering from severe thirst and dehydration and usually from malnutrition.
- If the patient has ketosis, as shown by a positive ferric chloride test. Emergency treatment mat be necessary.
- If complications exist, such as intercurrent disease, acute or chronic infection, gangrene, or hyperthyroidism.
- In the young diabetics, who may more readily recover some of his lost carbohydrate tolerance the sooner the disease is controlled.
Regardless of the level of sugar in blood and the condition diabetic is, the first line of treatment would be applied. Not Insulin but Metformin and weight loss, life style modifications. In no one text book it is said when and how Insulin must be started. It is all the time that diabetes diagnosed with level of sugar above 120 mg/dl. But what if in fiorst visit to clinic diabetic has 770 mg/dl? There is no one direction how to treat diabetic with such high blood sugar level. Usually it is better to send patient home, to keep clinic statistic and hospital statistic in better shape.
Insulin must be given in case of ketosis. Who suppose to check up if there are ketosis or not? Doctor. Why doctor need it? He does not. So, there is no test for ketosis. As a result there is no need in Insulin therapy.
Infection, gangrene, does this condition would lead to Rx Insulin to diabetic type 2? No way. In hospitals doctors even have no one idea what to do with diabetic and how to treat gangrene. They are ready to amputate human's parts of body. They are not capable to treat diabetic's gangrene. At least I was discharged from hospital in the same condition I was admitted. My legs still discharge yellow liquid. The infection would be next step, and then ... . I did not stay in hospital;l for long. They did not give me any dose of insulin. My usual dose of 400 units was dropped at once.
Today children as young as 2 or 6 years old treated with diet, no Insulin. More and more children diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. They stamped that they have overeating disorder. Treated with Insulin they might be healthy and well at the time when they will be adult. Without Insulin they die timelessly.
Lastly I wish to say, the symptoms of diabetes surface when diabetes is in very high stage of development. People in that stage in present time usually overweight. Start take level of sugar as vital and there will be many skinny, perfectly fit diabetics, adult or children.
